COLONEL FREDERICK E. “TMS” ROBINSON II


Colonel Frederick E. Robinson II is the Commander, 186th Air Operations Group, Key Field Air National Guard Base, Meridian, Mississippi. The 186th Air Operations Group provides Component Numbered Air Force staff personnel supporting HQ 1AF/AFNORTH, Defense Support of Civil Authorities and Homeland Defense. He is responsible for providing guidance, oversight and direction to HQ 1AF/AFNORTH and its supporting command, USNORTHCOM.


A Washington, D.C. native, Colonel Robinson is a 1996 graduate of Daniel Webster College. He received his commission in 1998 through the Academy of Military Science, commissioning source of the Air National Guard. He completed undergraduate pilot training in August 1999 and his operational flying assignments include C-130Es with the Air Mobility Command with the Rhode Island Air National Guard as well as F-16s with the Air Combat Command with the District of Columbia Air National Guard. Prior to command of the 186th Air Operations Group, Colonel Robinson served as the commander of the 186th Air Component Operations Squadron. In this role, Colonel Robinson was responsible for planning, coordination, and execution of all domestic operations pertaining to the Air Component of the Air Operations Group, including the integration of nearly 80+ subject matter experts in over 50 different Air Force specialties capabilities who train, augment and integrate with a numbered Air Force Forces staff, specifically 1AF at Tyndall Air Force Base. Prior to joining the Mississippi Air National Guard, Colonel Robinson maintained a Combat Mission Ready status as an F-16C+ Fighter Pilot and contributed to the Air Sovereignty Alert (ASA) mission in support of OPERATION NOBLE EAGLE (ONE) as a current and qualified Alert Commander.


Col. Robinson’s combat deployments include Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Balad Air Base, Iraq as a 332nd Expeditionary Fighter Squadron combat fighter pilot in 2006 and a deployment to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM as a 455th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron combat Flight Lead in 2011.
Colonel Robinson is a command pilot with over 10,600 hours of combined civilian airline and military flying experience. In addition to his combat experience in operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM, he has also planned and executed numerous integrated air defense missions for ONE since 2006. In his civilian capacity, he serves as a Captain and Line Check Pilot for a legacy U.S. airline carrier. Colonel Robinson is also bilingual, his second language being Spanish.
