KEY FIELD AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Miss. -- KEY FIELD AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Miss. – The 186th Air Refueling Wing (ARW) will receive $20 million for base upgrades, as part of the Mississippi Military Department Appropriation Senate Bill (SB) 3017 signed by Gov. Tate Reeves, April 20, 2023.
The funds, which are expected to be received by July 1, 2023, are appropriated for the construction of a new crash fire rescue station (CFRS) at Key Field as well as conversion of the base’s current CFRS to a deployment processing center.
"We are grateful and humbled by this unprecedented funding to improve the base,” said Col. Cindy Smith, commander of the 186th ARW. “Thank you to Gov. Reeves and our state legislators for investing in the Wing as we compete to host a new airframe, the KC-46 Pegasus aircraft.”
On May 6 at the National Guard Association of Mississippi conference in Flowood, Mississippi, Gov. Tate Reeves announced that he signed SB 3017 which appropriates more than $35 million to the military.
The 186th Air Refueling Wing provides over 1,100 personnel and eight KC-135R aircraft to Air Mobility Command for worldwide operations. Additional units at Key Field include the 238th Air Support Operations Squadron, the 248th Air Traffic Control Squadron, and the 186th Air Operations Group.
