Barrier-breaking Miss. National Guard officer dies at 58

The first female general officer in the history of the Mississippi National Guard died Thursday after an extended illness.

Maj. Gen. Catherine S. Lutz passed away at home in Flora after battling the disease for more than a year, said Mississippi National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. (Retired) Timothy J. Powell.
